Best offer!

I just added a "best offer" section to the shop. If you see something you fancy, send me a convo on Etsy (or a message here) and we'll strike a deal. I've got to move these things along to make room for some amazing spring inventory!

"Good (Victorian) dog!"

More fun figurals! This time, Victorian dogs. After I stocked the tiny English Bulldog pin in the shop I went searching for some other Victorian pups. These are a few of my favorites. Most of the time these kinds of pieces appear in gold or gold fill, although you can see examples of ivory and coral here, too.

Where to find these fellas (top to bottom)

Enamel and diamond French bulldog cufflinks (Alice Kwartler)
Gold fill bulldog converted stick pin (Jean Jean Vintage)
14K French bulldog stick pin (Lang Antiques)
Ivory hunting dog cufflinks (A. Brandt & Sons)
14K and pearl bulldog stick pin (The Strands of Time)
Coral whippet stick pin (Ruby Lane)

Sea serpent jewelry

It is fun to imagine the woman who originally owned and wore the SELJORD Art Deco bracelet (first image above), which I just listed in the shop this afternoon. Sea serpents are not for the faint-of-heart and the motif is extremely rare in Art Deco figural jewelry. As I was researching this bracelet I came across some other examples of antique jewelry with sea serpent/sea dragon motifs which I just had to share. All images are linked to their original sources, if you would like to take a closer look. It is worth noting that the red glass necklace, which is for sale over on ebay, is clearly made by the same company that made the Jean Jean bracelet, which is really remarkable. I would like to go back in time and spend a day in the workshop where those were made. Shhessssh.

P.S. If you have a good memory, you will remember a similar bracelet listed in the shop last year - with snakes instead of dragons.

It's not about jewelry

Here's what today is about, friends. It's not about jewelry. What?!? No, I really don't think it is. I know that some people like to give sparkly things today but my hunch is that most people prefer to share something more ephemeral. Because that's more decadent in a way, isn't it? A bunch of tulips in the middle of winter, sure to wilt within the week but bright as can be today. A box of fresh-cream truffles, meant to be enjoyed as soon as possible. A long walk in the woods with a thermos of hot chocolate to share. Fleeting joys for the present moment. That's what this day is about.

So I'm having a chocolate dipped palmier and a nice coffee right now, at 2:37 PM. An unexpected, welcome pleasure in the middle of the day. I'll make you a coffee, too. What would you like? You can leave your order in the comments section :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Shop update: Blue, gold and roses

These pieces are all new in the shop today. Photos aren't linked up yet (no time for image mapping this afternoon, folks - I apologize!) but you can find them all right at the top of the shop. How sweet is the BEE TO HONEY ring? I usually don't stock adjustable rings but I made an exception for this one.
