Georgian shoe buckles in their original case

When I saw these photos over at Parbold Antiques I heaved a greeeeatttt sign. These shoe buckles were a gift from King George III of England to the Dr. Layard, Dean of Bristol in 1803, who apparently died only three weeks after receiving the gift. The buckles remained in the Layard family until 2009 and were later offered for sale by the Parbold house. Fun fact: Shoe buckles were all the rage during the reign of King George III and he apparently had his own buckle maker starting in the 1780s. This pair is done in silver and diamonds and still retains the original case.
