Buckles win!

Buckle jewelry (also called garter jewelry) is the best. It is probably my favorite motif in jewelry, followed closely by bows. I like buckle jewelry for a few reasons.

1.) It is classic trompe l'oeil, which is always awesome.
2.) The best examples date to the Victorian period.
3.) It is an age-old symbol of loyalty.
4.) It's fun to have a mini buckle on your finger/wrist/lapel etc. Miniature things are adorable.
5.) Buckles look tough.

I don't have a lot of buckle jewelry yet, but I'm working on it. I have two rings right now - one for wearing, one for adoring. The latter is a really nice sentimental hair-work ring, probably made in the United States around the time of the Civil War.

Feast your eyes on more buckle jewelry here.

I saw a buckle ring tonight in a vintage store - it was quite plain and they wanted $3000 for it. I nearly died.

This made me search for these on Etsy. There are a couple of Victorian men's rings on there now, and they are so cool. But they are also way too big for me. I realized I have two buckle brooches, one silver and one old plastic. Now I want a ring.

I learn so much from you also. Thanks!
