The Queen's stockings

A few pairs of Queen Victoria's silk stockings will be up for auction November 1st in Edinburgh. The black pair are mourning stockings - aren't they lovely? They are part of the Forbes Collection at Old Battersea House, the London home of the Forbes family. The auction catalog is fantastic.

I want a pair of stockings embroidered with the crown! What an interesting auction item. I wonder why the mourning pair aren't entirely black.

What I find amazing is that all of these beautiful garments have been preserved. I wonder how much stockings will go for at auction!
