Two weeks old

Severen is two weeks old today. It has been an incredibly challenging and wonderful fourteen days. I haven't cried that much, although I did this morning out of sheer fatigue and frustration. We are still learning how to live with each other - it can be tricky. Most of our moments together are pretty wonderful, though. I spend a lot of time nuzzling his head like a mama bear and smelling his short, puffy little breaths. He has changed so much already . . . more alert (although you wouldn't know it from this photo!), visually more clued in to his surroundings, hungrier, less fragile, etc. I am so proud of him for making it through this first bit of life. He has had to go through more adjustments than me! What a brave little boy.

Very precious!! Oh my..... just so sweet -- your smelling of his breath!! So true!!

I know with my 3, I was most exhausted at 2 months. They do tend to stretch you to a limit and then acquiesce (as if to say, see, I love YOU, too!) or grow out of whatever it was; or find confidence and trust enough to allow you to rest. I always went with their rhythms rather than trying to impart mine/ours. In the long run, this worked very well for us.

Please use a small pad of paper and write down your little observations with a date and toss each one carelessly into a special box somewhere. Later, you can sift through them and get a second glimpse of all that you loved in his infancy. I didn't do that enough and wish that I had.

and by the way..... Bravo!!!

It is a hard time, no doubt. I shed many tears at the beginning. This little person is a stranger and you will learn to comfort him and learn his wee person language in no time. I'm so happy for you. You both look beautiful! xxoxoxo

THANK YOU for the post and picture! Oh my lord is he handsome. What a beautiful mama you are too. You're right on; I wonder about the poor babes, so used to a nice warm womb and now in a colder, dryer, noisier world — must be rough. I'm sure that in your arms he is as happy as can be. Go mama Duff! You are a trooper too, y'know! xoxoxo
